Have you ever bookmarked a site, then
noticed the little icon in the address bar? That's a FAVICON.

Or noticed the small images in your
favorites list? Wonder how to add them to your own site? For the most
part, favicons work mostly on Internet Explorer, but some other browsers
are catching on. What do you need to have a favicon? Well most
time, free servers will not allow favicons, so let's pretend you have
your own domain and hosting. All you need then is an image, some sites
say 16x16, but I have found that as large as 48x48
works fine! Just make sure to test it !
For the most part, all you have to do
is drop the favicon.ico in your main web directory and
browsers pick it up fine. You can also use the favicon as a way to
determine bookmarks when you see the favicon listed in your sites
stats and traffic information. Occasionally you may need to add
the CODE to make your favicon work. This might happen on free servers, isp hosting , or you may just want to add the code.
The below code is what you use, *
includes code to allow favicon use on Opera, Mozilla, KDE, etc * and
make sure to adjust your PATH, for example, the one for this site would be
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico">
You will place this code
before the /head> tag.
